Election night had many firsts for Texans. James Talarico became the first Democrat elected to the U.S. Senate from Texas in over three decades. Gina Hinojosa followed, becoming the first Latina governor of Texas and the first Democrat to be elected to the position since Ann Richards in 1990.
Crowds watched parties around Austin, waited patiently and then many celebrated. Longhorn students took to Speedway and the UT Tower to gather and celebrate, while many Austinites took to the Capitol to sing, dance and let out all their emotions with like-minded people until the early morning of Nov. 4.
